Healthy KP Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition to Host Back to School Social on Aug. 28

NORFOLK — Superintendent Rich Drolet and Principal Nicole Bottomley are pleased to announce that the Healthy KP Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition (Healthy KP) is hosting a Back to School Social event on Aug. 28 from 6-8 p.m. at the KP Field House, King Philip Regional High School.

This event will kick off Healthy KP’s 5th annual Family Meals Matter Month and is open to students of KP and their families. The King Philip Sports Boosters will be providing hot dogs, hamburgers and a variety of chip options from 6-6:30 p.m. Following dinner, social activities will begin with a community-building event. Students will connect with their peers over games, prizes, music and a Mario Kart Tournament.

This event is free for all to attend. Please register at this link.

Healthy KP will provide a resource fair for ages 18 and up where parents and caregivers can learn about the coalition, meet with the KP administration team and connect with educators. Parents will have the option of viewing the Hidden In Plain Sight Exhibit to explore a mock up of a teen bedroom and learn about emergent drug threats.

Holliston Police Lieutenant Jim Barrett will lead a discussion about social host laws and liability. A variety of community mental health and wellness resources that support the KP community will also be provided. Healthy KP will offer various fun activities and games that support them in understanding the dangers of intoxication.

“I am really looking forward to this event. It is always a great night for students and families,” said Principal Bottomley. “Partnering with Healthy KP is an excellent way to educate youth and families on substance use. I am glad we have the ability to offer our community these resources in a fun and family-friendly way.”
